From the sanctuary, the trail continues through dense woodland and rural landscapes, passing by the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Reggio and gradually descending towards Vernazza.
- End Point: The trail concludes in Vernazza, one of the most picturesque villages of the Cinque Terre. The approach to Vernazza from this trail offers a unique perspective, as it descends into the village from above, providing stunning views of Vernazza’s colorful houses, the ancient Doria Castle, and its bustling harbor. Once arrived, you have the following options:
- Hike back to Monterosso via the Blue Trail or connect it to Blue Trail section between Vernazza and Corniglia
- Take the Cinque Terre train back to Monterosso or any of the villages
Practical Tips
- Alternative to the Blue Trail: This itinerary is an excellent alternative to the more crowded Blue Trail. Note that this trail is more challenging than the coastal route, with steep climbs and descents.
- Footwear: Wear sturdy hiking shoes, as the trail can be rocky and uneven in places.
- Water and Snacks: Apart from the sanctuary, there are no facilities once you leave Monterosso until you reach Vernazza.
- Sun Protection: The trail offers limited shade. Wear a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses to protect yourself from sunburn and heatstroke.
- Start early: To avoid the heat and enjoy the quiet of the morning, start your hike early in the day.
